Salvation Army volunteers?

Published by leigh under in the news

Major Jerry Curtright with the Columbus Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to ring bells or perform holiday tunes at some of their locations over the holidays.

The ringing begins next Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). Shifts are available Monday through Saturday, running from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Locations include Marsh, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Rural King, Kroger and Hobby Lobby. Some even have lovely foyers to keep ringers out of the weather.

To volunteer, please contact Jerry at (812) 344-3488.

Thanks and happy holidays!

Do you have photos of Mike Gill?

Published by leigh under help needed,in the news

The Chordlighter Chorus is “Remembering Mike Gill” at the opening of their Dec. 4 Christmas show. Mike died of cancer 10 years ago, and they’re looking for photos of him while he played in CCB during the 1990s.

Mike was a director of a Sweet Adeline Chorus in Indy in the ’60s, directed an Indianapolis barbershop chapter for 10+ years, then directed the Columbus-Greenwood barbershop chapter for many years. He also sang in two district champion quartets and was an arranger of music for barbershop quartets and chorus.

If you have any good-quality photos they can use, please contact Liston Hinson at (812) 342-6343.

If you’d like to attend the Chordlighter’s Christmas show at Franklin High School, Liston said he’d be glad to provide tickets to CCB members. They’ll be performing six songs that were arranged by Mike.
