No rehearsal May 31

There will be no band rehearsal on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31. Rehearsals resume Monday, June 7 — with just three to go before the Brownstown Patriotic Program.

Remember: We’ll now be parking on the east end of the middle school. The side closer to the band room.

Republic editorial: Art support key to city’s future

Excerpt from Columbus Republic editorial on Sunday, May 23, 2010:

“The apparent demise of Popfest has cast a shadow over the Columbus arts community.

“So far, no organizers or sponsors have stepped forward to stage the 30-year-old popular summertime musical extravaganza, and none seems to be forthcoming.

“… Popfest aside, arts programming in this community has taken an even bigger hit over the past few years as agencies struggle with reduced funding and leaders in the public and private sector often put sponsorship of such events at the top of their budget-cutting lists.

“While the need for all concerned to live within their means is obvious, it is important that this community recognize the need for top quality arts programming to remain a catalyst in promoting the quality of life in Columbus. …”

Friday Night Live @SICA

With all of us thinking pleasant, dry thoughts, here’s your tooting info for this Friday at the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts:

  • Loading: Just bring your own music stand.
    In seats at SICA: 6:30 p.m.
    Concert begins: 7 p.m.

Concert attire:

  • Tan summer band shirt (if you don’t have one,match the shirts worn by our glorious models at columbuscityband.org)
  • Black pants/skirts
  • Black shoes

Location:

Southern Indiana Center for the Arts
2001 N. Ewing St. (Hwy 11), Seymour, Ind.

  • From Columbus, take I-65 South to Seymour.
  • Take the first Seymour exit, Exit 55 – Hwy 11/Jonesville and head south.
  • Turn right at the stoplight on Redding Road.
  • Turn left at the “More SICA parking” sign and park by the barn.



This map shows Hwy 11 at the intersection with Redding Road. Turn west onto Redding and turn left immediately BEFORE the railroad tracks you can see on the left of the map. You can see three parked vehicles near the two barns — park there. Then walk up the hill (east) to SICA.
